Backer Facsa to supply auxiliary heating for Talgo’s high-speed trains for FlixTrain

2 min read By Machouse

Backer Facsa has been awarded the supply of the auxiliary heating systems for the 65 high-speed trains Talgo is building for FlixTrain. The award places the company at the centre of one of the most significant rail projects in Europe over the coming years.

The fleet is based on the Talgo 230 platform and designed to run at speeds of up to 230 km/h with Siemens locomotives. It forms part of the contract that FlixTrain awarded to Talgo in May 2025 to renew and expand its high-speed offer.

Our scope is straightforward: to keep passengers and drivers comfortable all year round, including the winter conditions of central Europe where these trainsets will operate.

Critical components for rolling stock

Auxiliary heating on a train is no ordinary piece of equipment. It operates under continuous vibration, demanding thermal cycles and very low outdoor temperatures, and it has to do so with a reliability that leaves no room for failure in commercial service. This is precisely the kind of critical component Backer Facsa specialises in within rolling stock.

The project also strengthens our relationship with Talgo and adds to other work the two companies currently have under way together.

We would like to thank Talgo for once again placing its trust in our heating solutions, and to congratulate the teams at both companies, whose technical work over recent months has been decisive in defining the requirements of a project of this scale.

With this step, Backer Facsa continues to consolidate its specialisation in critical components for rolling stock in the international rail market.
